The first ever NANOSMAT conference (International Conference on Surfaces, Coatings and Nanostructured Materials) was held in 2005 at the University of Aveiro in Portugal. Subsequently, NANOSMAT-2 (in 2007), NANOSMAT-3 (in 2008), NANOSMAT-4 (in 2009), NANOSMAT-5 (2010), NANOSMAT-6 (2011), NANOSMAT-7 (2012), NANOSMAT-8 (2013), NANOSMAT-9 (2014) and NANOSMAT-10 (2015) were successfully organised and held in Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Poland, Czech Republic, Spain, Ireland and UK, respectively. Since its inception in 2005, NANOSMAT has rapidly established itself to become a leading conference in the field of nanomaterials related nanoscience and nanotechnology. The NANOSMAT conference series foster the gathering of talented and truly international people to exchange ideas, share new knowledge and technical know-how in the broad NANO fields.
NANOSMAT Prize, NANOSMAT Lecture, Outstanding Young Scientist Award, Young Scientist Lecture Competition, Poster Competition, Technical Workshops, Exhibition, Special Sessions, Poster Sessions, Expert discussion forums, short courses, workshops and tutorials.
As a result of the growing NANOSMAT success – the first ever NANOSMAT-USA (2012) and 2nd NANOSMAT-USA (2014) were held in Tampa (Florida, USA) and Houston (Texas, USA), respectively. On both these occasions Nobel Laureate Professor H. W. Kroto from Florida State University (USA) delivered the plenary lectures.
Similar NANOSMAT-Asia conferences were launched in 2013 (in Wuhan, China) and the 2nd NANOSMAT-Asia was held in (Kayseri) Turkey during March 2015.
NANOENERGY (International Conference on Nanotechnology, Nanomaterials and Thin Films for Energy Applications) and NANOMED (International Conference on Nanotechnology in Medicine) are off-shoot meetings from NANOSMAT. Both these annual conferences have been successfully organised since 2012 in the UK.
A number ofNobel Laureateshave given plenary and keynote lectures at NANOSMAT conferences, includingProfessor H. W. Kroto(USA),Professor Jean Marie-Lehn(France),Professor Peter Grunberg(Germany), Professor Albert Fert(France) andProfessor Andrei Geim(UK).
NANOSMAT has produced a number high quality special issues of international peer-review journals such as Applied Surface Science (Elsevier), Thin Solid Films (Elsevier), International Journal of Hydrogen Energy(Elsevier), Nanomedicine (Elsevier), International Journal of Energy Research (Wiley), Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (American Scientific Publishers), Catalysis Today (Elsevier), Journal of Materials Science (Springer),Microelectronic Engineering (Elsevier), Surface & Coatings Technology (Elsevier) etc.
The guest editors of the above mentioned special issues have been members of the core NANOSMAT steering committee.
